Lots of folks seem to think that Van’s fiberglass fairing are pretty bad, so I’ve been looking at what might be a better starting point to work from.

Fairings Etc gets good reviews, so it’s something to keep in mind for the future. They come totally unfinished though, so would need a shot of primer to protect them against UV till the plane is painted. This would be sanded off before paint.

Because they don’t have a gel coat on them, they do save some small amount of weight because there’s no “extra” layer of paint/etc on them underneath your own paint.
